Use of Funds Update

Our first fundraising goal was $15,000.00 for a deep well for the school and community. Thanks to many of you, Maasai School 121 was able to accomplish this goal. In fact our total funds are now almost twice that amount. Thank you!

While we were fundraising, our Tanzanian partners, the elders of the Maasai community, were taking a longer look at the well option and as a result have altered their recommendation for the location of the school. They recommend now that the school be built on the west side of the hills where there is access to water piped from a spring. They believe it is a wiser plan to build where there is a sure water source and to use current funds for construction rather than trying for a deep well in such an arid region. This decision came after much discussion among area tribal elders and chiefs and research into the history of drilling in this region. These funds will be used to construct the first two classrooms, equipped with a rainwater harvesting system as a secondary water source, on the western side of the hills where spring water can be piped in. Thank you for your compassionate giving!

And what about the people living east of the hills where there is no source of clean water? What about our secondary school prep class that is currently in operation east of the hills? We have not forgotten them! One of our board members is in the process of applying for a grant from an organization that does water projects and we hope this organization will come alongside us to pursue that deep well. In the meantime we will pursue with our partners the idea of equipping the one room church/school with a rainwater harvesting system to capture the scant rain that does fall during the spring.
